Energy system renewal

Alti-Systems was responsible for the electrical, automation and heating and sanitation installations when the energy system of the production facility was renewed and oil was abandoned as an energy source.

AIR-TO-WATER HEAT PUMPS FOR INDUSTRIAL BUILDING

Trafotek, which manufactures power transformers for the international market, among other things, had decided to carry out an energy renovation in the building during 2023. The project was put out to tender, and Alti-Systems was selected to implement the 240-kW building heat pump system in collaboration with the project management consultant responsible for the site.

Alti-Systems is known in Southwest Finland as a supplier of versatile refrigeration technology services and energy solutions. The company also has extensive experience in the design and installation of heat pump systems for industry, municipalities, and households. Demand for total solutions has been growing strongly in recent years.

The main objective of the renovation of the industrial building was to increase energy efficiency, which was solved by abandoning oil and switching to air-to-water heat pumps as a source of energy in addition to district heating.

This was an interesting project and we were able to make use of our extensive experience from similar projects.

Timo Alanne, Managing Director, Alti-Systems

During the renovation, four Mitsubishi Electric air-to-water heat pumps were installed in the courtyard area. A new control centre was installed in the heating room. At the same time, the old oil boilers were removed and replaced with hot water heat exchangers and new, more energy-efficient circulating water pumps. A total of seven new control sub-centres control the automation throughout the building.

All demolition and installation work was carried out at the same time as normal work was carried out in both the production and office areas. The new system was built alongside the old one and the work was planned and scheduled so as not to disrupt other surrounding activities.  For example, the new automation centres were installed one at a time and the transition was timed so that they could be switched on smoothly while the old system was disconnected.

– This was an interesting project and we were able to make use of our extensive experience from similar projects, says Timo Alanne, Managing Director of Alti-Systems.
