Solar energy solution for a family farming business
Automation T&N has been designing, installing, and maintaining building automation systems for both private houses and public sector buildings in Ostrobothnia for over 15 years. A few years ago, the company also started designing photovoltaic systems. They have rapidly become one of the main substitutes for fossil fuels, with demand multiplying as energy prices rose.
In Hemmanet’s assignment, we were able to combine our expertise in both building automation and solar panels.
Mats Nordgren, Auotomation T&N
The Hemmanet farm is in the Närpiö region in a traditional landscape. Family business employs three generations, and main products are turkey production and transplants. In addition, Hemmanet also produces cereals. The farming company and Automation T&N were already familiar with each other from various electrical work assignments. In the spring of 2023, the need to develop automation and energy systems also arose.
– This was an interesting project for us. Smaller agricultural production buildings are also becoming more and more intelligently controlled. In Hemmanet’s assignment, we were able to combine our expertise in both building automation and solar panels, says Mats Nordgren.
Following an thoroughly assessment for the client, Automation T&N proposed a 110kW solar power plant on the roof of the poultry building. As a basis, the company produced detailed plans, preliminary calculations and 3D modelling. This was a significant investment for farmers and the impact of the system on energy costs was carefully assessed.
Landscape matters
For Automation T&N, it was important to ensure that the plans also took into account the landscape aspect. The company has implemented photovoltaic systems in the old centre of Kristiinankaupunki, among other places. In the old wooden buildings, new construction is restricted by regulations and panels can only be installed on the courtyard side.
– Hemmanet project involved installation of 240 solar panels on the roof of the building, covering a total area of almost 500 m². Here too, we wanted to make sure that the new structures fit into the property and its location.
In addition to the design, Automation T&N was responsible for the electrical installations, i.e. cable runs and inverter installation as well as panel wiring. Partner company Närpes Byggtjänst was responsible for the installation of the panels on the roof.
